James J. Lynch,
PhD, is Director of the Life Care Health Center in Baltimore, Maryland
(www.lifecarehealth.com) and the author of
The Broken Heart: The Medical
Consequences of Loneliness, and
A Cry
Unheard: New Insights into the Medical Consequences of
Loneliness. His research over the
past 35 years has provided
much credibility for the benefits of the human-animal bond and
animal-assisted therapy. He and Aaron Katcher
were the first to document how dramatically the presence of
animals can lower blood pressure, and to suggest
that reading to dogs might be an excellent idea to support
children learning to read. We consider him one of our
inspirations and are delighted he will be joining us at the
first R.E.A.D.ing with Dogs conference.
